A man was arrested for speeding over 100 miles per hour over the weekend with a baby in the back seat. The Blue earth county sheriff’s office arrested him after a lengthy chase. An officer observed him going 112 and did not stop or slow down with the officer pursued him. He was forced into a ditch and was taken to the Waseca county jail in Minnesota. The child had no injuries and was buckled into a car seat. Minor damage was reported to the vehicles, and the state patrol is investigating the chase and crash. He will need a experienced and aggressive criminal attorney to fight the charges against him.
The 21 year old will likely be facing child endangerment charges. There are many different ways an individual can be charged with child endangerment. Minnesota Statute 609.378 states that “a parent, legal guardian, or caretaker who willfully deprives a child of necessary food, clothing, shelter, health care, or supervision appropriate to the child’s age, when the parent, guardian, or caretaker is reasonably able to make the necessary provisions and the deprivation harms or is likely to substantially harm the child’s physical, mental, or emotional health is guilty of neglect of a child and may be sentenced to imprisonment for not more than one year or to payment of a fine of not more than $3,000, or both.” A person can also be sentenced to up to five years in prison and/or $10,000 fine if the deprivation results in substantial harm to the child.
Other possible charges may include fleeing a peace office in a motor vehicle, which is a felony in Minnesota.
