People from all walks of life can wind up in legal trouble, even those who work in law enforcement. While many people can get caught up in the irony that a law enforcement officer might have broken the law, it is important to remember that any person who is accused of a crime deserves a fair shot at defending his name.
On Saturday night, a police officer was arrested for suspicion of DWI in Minnesota. Specifically, he was pulled over near Lake Minnetonka in Shorewood and later taken into custody at the Hennepin County Jail. Just like any drunk driving suspect, this local officer has a fight ahead to avoid penalties and the damage that a DUI conviction can have on one’s life.
According to KARE 11, the 30-year-old officer hasn’t yet faced any career-related consequences as a result of his recent arrest. But history shows that drunk driving convictions can lead to employment difficulties. When the job market is as tough as it is today, no one needs another hurdle before them when trying to support their family.
The officer in this Hennepin County misdemeanor DWI case has served his community in his position and nearly been injured on the job while trying to do so. He, and any other person charged with driving under the influence, deserves a chance to fight for his name. An experienced DUI defense attorney knows the questions to ask in a drunk driving case and how to best protect a defendant from the obvious and hidden costs of a DUI conviction.
