Recently an impaired driving death case occurred when a passenger took over the wheel when his friend was stopped for a DWI, and the passenger became a dead driver. Morris Beaulieu of the town of Boy River was a passenger in a car being driven by his 21-year old friend who was stopped for a drinking an driving in Beltrami County. Beaulieu was passed out when his friend was stopped for DUI by the police. He woke up, however, and slid over to the driver’s seat while the police were testing his friend outside the car.
Beaulieu then drover off in his friends car, committing a DWI himself, as well as fleeing the police. In fact, he led police on a 100 mph chase. Unfortunately for Beaulieu, the chase ended when he rolled the car in a ditch and hit some trees. He was found dead by police. This type of case illustrates exactly how dangerous drinking and driving and DWI’s can be, even for “passengers.”
