About Barry S. Edwards

Barry S. Edwards tries cases from misdemeanors to murder. If you need someone to negotiate a hard bargain or take your case to trial, he’s ready to do either.

Barry is a member of the Minnesota Society for Criminal Justice, Minnesota Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, and the National College of DUI Defense and has been named a Super Lawyer multiple times. He is also one of fewer than 100 Certified Criminal Law Specialists in Minnesota, and he regularly teaches litigation strategy — particularly in DWI cases — to lawyers across the state.

Barry grew up in Oklahoma and graduated from Grinnell College in 1987 with a degree in English. Before law school, Barry earned a Ph.D. in English from the University of Minnesota in 1995 and taught English at local colleges and universities.

Outside the Office
When Barry is not working — on criminal defense, civil liberties, or defendants’ rights — he follows the Kansas City Chiefs and Royals, runs (eight marathons), plays low-stakes poker, and listen to early-1970s rock. Barry lives in south Minneapolis with his wife, son, a large dog, and two cats.

Personalized Approach

I make a point of working directly with you, from our initial consultation through to resolution. I will be thoroughly familiar with your case because I handle all aspects of it. I personally do all writing for your case, I personally accompany you to all appearances, and — if necessary — I personally represent you in court. You can reach me directly by phone and email; I answer immediately when I can, and respond quickly to messages throughout the day. I know your time is valuable.
It’s my job to work closely with each of my clients to understand the matter before us, determine what the best possible outcome is, and implement the right strategy to get there.

I have represented clients in Hennepin, Ramsey, Anoka, Wright, Carver, Scott, Dakota, Sherburne, McLeod, and Washington counties. I know the system, and will personally navigate it for you.
