A Michigan man seeks criminal defense as he faces up to five years in prison for accessing his soon to be ex-wife’s email account. The man is being prosecuted under a Michigan state anti-hacking law normally enforced to punish individuals who have hacked into a government or private business computer system. The man accessed his wife’s email account to confirm whether or not his wife was having an affair.
A Florida husband and wife wanted for charges of fraud were apprehended by the Federal Bureau of Investigations after the 62-year-old husband sought treatment at a hospital for a severe bloody nose. The man had a pacemaker and the pacemaker is thought to play a role in hospital workers identifying the man. The Federal Bureau of Investigations has been after the couple for over two years. The married couple owned a title insurance company together and were wanted for stealing around $10 million from clients.
The use of specialized Drug Courts is spreading across the country and the state of Minnesota. Drug courts lower costs for incarceration, potentially lowering taxes for all citizens. In addition, intensive supervision and drug treatment handed out as sentences in drug courts in lieu of lengthy jail time saves money by, among other things, reducing the chances that a Minnesota drug crime defendant will be re-arrested.
Today, December 17, 2010, the Intoxilyzer DWI source code hearings continued in front of Judge Jerome Abrams in Hastings at the Dakota County Courthouse. Judge Abrams is hearing thousands of DWI criminal cases and implied consent driver’s license cases all challenging the source code or software for the Intoxilyzer used to test drivers suspected of DWI. The National Transportation Safety Board is making hard-core drunk driving one its top priorities. Hard-core drunk drivers are drivers who get on the road with a blood alcohol content of 0.15 percent or higher, or offenders who have been arrested multiple times for DUI or drunken driving within the last 10 years. As a part of its efforts, the National Transportation Safety Board is lobbying states to adopt its 11 point safety program to reduce the risk of hard-core drunk drivers on the road.

Officials say the release of the information is meant to publicize the issue and get citizens to start thinking about driving under the influence of drugs.
Last Wednesday the Drug Enforcement Administration banned fake marijuana products that chemically imitate the effects of marijuana use. The Drug Enforcement Administration used its emergency powers to ban the products, and the ban has made it illegal to possess the products. The ban has also made it illegal to sell the combination of five chemicals used to create imitation marijuana.
