In March, a Philadelphia man answered his door to find law enforcement holding a warrant for the arrest of his 22-year-old son. According to WPTZ.com, the young man was charged with selling $40 worth of heroin out of his parents’ home. Six weeks later, authorities returned and seized the couple’s home, leaving them and their children out on the street. According to law enforcement, the home is part of a pending investigation – the young man has not been convicted of the crime.
FedEx has just been hit with a federal drug indictment for allegedly illegally transporting prescription medications. FedEx has denied the charges.  If convicted, the corporation could face a fine of $160 billion dollars. The federal drug indictment charges stemmed from internet pharmacies selling illegal pills.
A 27-year-old North St. Paul mother and her 6-year-old daughter have a condition known as Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, according to The Huffington Post. Like many others with EDS, the woman said she experiences pain so severe that it keeps her from being able to play with her daughter. Smoking medical marijuana, she said, dulls the pain enough to enable her and her child to comfortably enjoy their time together.
Drug addiction is a serious problem that affects millions of people in the United States. According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse, it is estimated that 52 million people have used prescription drugs, without a medical reason to do so, at some point during their life.
